Backyard Sports was a well-liked family-friendly sports game franchise that ran from 1999 to 2015. It featured vibrant visuals, simple gameplay, and Pablo Sanchez, one of the most dominant players in video game history. Playground Productions has said today that Backyard Sports will return, and it will take the form of more than just video games.

A press statement stated that Backyard Sports will be making a comeback "across multiple verticals, including video games, merchandise, film, television and more". The first project will debut "in the coming months," but no details were disclosed, such as whether or not it would be a video game or what platforms it will be available on.
Alongside the announcement, a short teaser film featuring several youngsters getting ready for a baseball game in the recognizable Backyard Sports visual style was made public. In addition to the playground, we notice a treehouse that displays league standings and tournament brackets. Pablo Sanchez then takes the mound as the pitcher.
Lindsay Barrett, a former second-grade teacher with "over a decade of experience in the Chicago public school system," launched Playground Productions in 2022.
According to the company's website, Playground "creates content that celebrates the spirit of play, meets children where they are developmentally, and allows kids to be kids by leveraging the best technology, talent, and character IP.
"Backyard Soccer and Backyard Football followed in September 1998 and October 1999, respectively, after Backyard Sports made its PC debut with Backyard Baseball in October 1997.
Prior to this revelation, the most recent Backyard Sports games could be found on mobile devices because Backyard Sports: Basketball 2015 and Backyard Sports: Baseball 2015 were released concurrently in February 2015. In 2016, a Backyard Sports movie was also announced, however it was never developed.
